Managing partner salary in 2027: 4 rules for the new year

The minimum wage rises to €970 in January. It’s the right time to review the managing partner’s salary: what it costs the company, why it is still free of IRS and how to pay more with no deductions.

1. The minimum wage goes up €50

The minimum wage rises from €920 to €970 on 1 January. With 14 payments a year, the company spends about €866 more per year, Social Security included.

2. What it really costs

The company pays 23.75% in Social Security and the managing partner contributes 11%. The salary and these contributions are company expenses and reduce corporate tax (IRC).

Example

A €970 salary costs the company €1,200 a month, and the managing partner takes home €863.

3. Still no income tax (IRS)

The tax-free threshold (mínimo de existência) rises to €13,580, exactly 14 minimum wages. Anyone who earns only the minimum wage still pays no IRS and has no tax withheld.

4. Meal allowance: get paid more with no deductions

Up to the legal limit (in 2026, €10.46 per day on a meal card), the meal allowance (subsídio de refeição) is free of Social Security and IRS, and it is a company expense.

Example

€10 a day on a meal card adds up to about €2,420 a year, with no deductions at all.

Team tip

Check with your accountant that January’s payroll already uses €970, and take the chance to decide your 2027 meal allowance.

When the managing partner travels for work, the company can cover the costs free of income tax and Social Security, within the legal limits. Above those limits, or without the right paperwork, the amount is treated as salary.
When the business is starting out, needs to invest or has a tight month, it is common for the partner to put money into the company. Done as a shareholder loan (suprimento), it is exempt from Stamp Duty and the
